John Schulman John Schulman and his wife Emily Hetzel started Caliban Bookshop in Pittsburgh in 1991, specializing in literary first editions, Americana and exploration, fine arts, and general rare books and manuscripts. They became members of the ABAA (Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America) and the international organization of booksellers, the ILAB, in 1993.

Mr. Schulman first appraised books and manuscripts for ANTIQUES ROADSHOW during its inaugural season in 1997 and has acted as an expert appraiser for ROADSHOW many times since then.

Since 1998, Mr. Schulman has been in charge of organizing and appraising books and manuscripts for the ABAA's Discovery Day, at their annual spring antiquarian book fair in New York City.
